The Colon Cancer Challenge Half-Marathon

Runner attaching the ChampionChip race timing chip to his shoe before the start of The Colon Cancer Challenge Half-Marathon in Central Park, New York City. March 14, 2004. The ChampionChip race timing system utilizes a small plastic "chip" with a transponder inside. Each chip has a unique seven-digit code. The chip is attached to the tunner's shoe and is read by an antenna located in a mat on the ground. Mats are placed at the start and finish and also at split point for some races.
